A Day In Rishikesh

Today, we spent the day in Rishikesh... I'm going to be very brief because 1) I didn't come to India to write about it, I came to be here; 2) the internet can be sketchy; 3) someone else might need on the computer.

The road to Rishikesh is supposed to take an hour from Bal Vikas Kendra in Dehradun... it took us at least an hour and a half because of two reasons: there was a Hindu holiday (there are many) and people were all going into the city to pay honor to their ancestors- this involves many parades. Also, there was an "astroturf" rush into the city to protest political issues.

We had an amazing time in Rishikesh once we finally got in to town. We went to Vikrant's two schools, Prem & Agape. We got leid at Prem. We then had lunch at his house with his wife and two children. Afterwards, we went into town and saw the River Ganges, temples for Shiva, and many, MANY, many, many people. We even saw many westerners and we prayer-walked around a bit, soaked up the sights (monkeys & cows within reach), sounds (car horns & bells ringing to keep the gods awake), and smells (feces, B.O. fried food, popcorn, incense). Then we took a lovely ride home through the forest so we wouldn't face all that same traffic that would be heading home.

Once we got into Dehradun, a light rain had begun and it was JAM PACKED with traffic. Our driver, Vijay, is ah-mazing. He literally got out and pushed a car out of the way. It still took us about an hour to get back to BVK. We ate dinner at Prez and then all came home. Exhausted.

I showered. And I've been trying to write this post for like a million minutes but I keep getting distracted by these two BOYS. They think blogging is a "very bad habit." I must go. I will post pictures laterz.

  1. Alycia, I am so happy that you two are experiencing so much. I am sure that you both are gaining incredible insight into the challenges that face Christians in India. Of course, Christianity is under attack around the world, and each region has a different angle of assault. To best exploit people's weaknesses, Satan and his minions choose different tactics in different environments.

We love you so much, and I am praying throughout the day for your safety and success in doing God's work. - Love,Dad
